Public Speaking and Panic Attacks

By Joe Barry Mc Donagh

It is often observed that many people’s top ranking fear is not death but having to speak in public. The joke is that these people would rather be lying in the casket at the funeral than giving the eulogy. Public speaking for people who suffer from panic attacks or general anxiety often becomes a major source of worry weeks or even months before the speaking event is to occur.

These speaking engagements do not necessarily have to be the traditional “on a podium” events but can be as simple as an office meeting where the individual is expected to express an opinion or give verbal feedback. The fear of public speaking and panic attacks in this case centers on having an attack while speaking. The individual fears being incapacitated by the anxiety and hence unable to complete what he or she is saying. The person imagines fleeing the spotlight and having to make all kinds of excuses later for their undignified departure out the office window….

This differs slightly from the majority of people who fear public speaking because their fear tends to revolve around going blank while speaking or feeling uncomfortable under the spotlight of their peers. The jitters or nerves of speaking in public are of course a problem for this group as well, but they are unfamiliar with that debilitating threat which is the panic attack, as they most likely have not experienced one before.

Public Speaking and Panic Attacks
So how should a person with an anxiety issue tackle public speaking? Stage one is accepting that all these bizarre and quite frankly unnerving sensations are not going to go away overnight. In fact, you are not even going to concern yourself with getting rid of them for your next talk. When they arrive during a speech/meeting, you are going to approach them in a new manner. What we need to do is build your confidence back to where it used to be before any of these sensations ever occurred. This time you will approach it in a unique, empowering manner, allowing you to feel your confidence again. It is said that most of the top speakers are riddled with anxiety before speaking, but they somehow use this nervousness to enhance their speech. I am going to show you exactly how to do this, although I know that right now if you suffer from public speaking and panic attacks you may find it difficult to believe you can ever overcome it.

My first point is this and it is important. The average healthy person can experience an extreme array of anxiety and very uncomfortable sensations while giving a speech and is in no danger of ever losing control, or even appearing slightly anxious to the audience. No matter how tough it gets, you will always finish your piece, even if at the outset it feels very uncomfortable to go on. You will not become incapacitated in any way.

The real breakthrough for if you suffer from public speaking and panic attacks happens when you fully believe that you are not in danger and that the sensations will pass.

“I realize you (the anxiety) hold no threat over me.”

What keeps a panic attack coming again and again is the fear of the fear—the fear that the next one will really knock your socks off and you feel you were lucky to have made it past the last one unscathed. As they were so unnerving and scary, it is your confidence that has been damaged by previous anxiety episodes. Once you fully understand you are not under any threat, then you can have a new response to the anxiety as it arises while speaking.

Defeating public speaking and panic attacks...

There is always a turning point when a person moves from general anxiety into a panic attack, and that happens with public speaking when you think to yourself:

"I won’t be able to handle this in front of these people."

That split second of self-doubt leads to a rush of adrenaline, and the extreme anxiety arrives in a wave like format. If, however, when you feel the initial anxiety and you react with confidence that this is not a threat to you, you will move out of the anxiety rapidly. Using this new approach is a powerful ally because it means it is okay to feel scared and feel the anxiety when speaking–that is fine; you are going to feel it and move with and through the sensations in your body and out the other side. Because he or she is feeling very anxious, often before the talk has begun, that person may feel they have already let themselves down. Now, you can relax on that point. It is perfectly natural to feel the anxiety. Take for example the worst of the sensations you have ever experienced in this situation—be it general unease to loss of breath. You will have an initial automatic reaction that says:

“Danger–I’m going to have an episode of anxiety here and I really can’t afford that to happen.”

At this point most people react to that idea and confirm it must be true because of all of the unusual feelings they are experiencing. This is where your thinking can lead you down a train of thought that creates a cycle of anxiety that produces a negative impact on your overall presenting skills.

So let that initial “oh dear, not now” thought pass by, and follow it up immediately with the attitude of:

“There you are–I’ve been wondering when you would arrive. I’ve been expecting you to show up—by the way, I am not in the least threatened by any of the strange sensations you are creating—I am completely safe here.”

Public Speaking and Panic AttacksThe key to controlling your fear of public speaking and panic attacks is that instead of pushing the emotional energy and excitement down into your stomach, you are moving out through it. Your body is in a slightly excited state, exactly as it should be while giving a speech, so release that energy in your self-expression. Push it out through your presentation not down into your stomach. You push it out by expressing yourself more forcefully. In this way you turn the anxiety to your advantage by using it to deliver a speech where you come across more alive, energetic and in the present moment. When you notice the anxiety drop as it does when you willingly move into it. Fire a quick thought off when you get a momentary break (as I am sure you have between pieces), asking it for “more.” You want more of its intense feelings as you are interested in them and are absolutely not threatened by them.

It seems like a lot of things to be thinking about while talking to a group of people, but it is not really. You’d be amazed how many different non-related thoughts you can have while speaking. This approach is about adopting a new attitude of confidence to what you might have deemed a serious threat up until now. This tactic will truly help you with fear of public speaking and panic attacks you have associated with them.

If your predominant fear of the speaking engagement is driven by a feeling of being trapped, then I would suggest factoring in some mental releases that can be prepared before the event. For example, some meetings/speeches allow for you to turn the attention back to the room to get feedback etc. from the group.

If possible, you might want to prepare such opportunities in your own mind before the engagements. This is not to say you have to ever use them, but people in this situation often remark that just having small opportunities where attention can be diverted for the briefest of moments can make the task seem less daunting. It my even be something as simple as having people introduce themselves or opening the floor to questions. I realize these diversions are not always possible and depend on the situation, but anything you can factor in that makes you feel less trapped or under the spotlight is worth the effort and can help alleviate fear of public speaking and panic attacks.

I hope you have found this public speaking and panic attacks page helpful. Please give it some careful consideration and you will realize it contains the truth.

Debilitating Fear

By Kurt Mortensen

The biggest obstacle with people is fear. Overcome it and understand what your fears are costing you. Monetarily, relationships, the things you need to accomplish to become exponentially successful. That is why it is so important to implement the things we've talked about during these audios. Find the courage the confidence, the ambition, the conviction to become what you want to be. To do the things that you want to do.

Now does everyone have fears? We do. Now here is the interesting thing. A little baby that is a week old, just born only has two fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises.

Some people like to take the word fear and spell it out, like False Expectations Appearing Real, some say it is forget everything and run. I think it is Frozen Energy Actions Required. So the challenge is that we've learned these fears, and so if we can learn them we can unlearn them. It is a challenge, we have on of the big fears that Napoleon Hill even talks about is the fear of criticism. Why do we care so much what people think? Social acceptance? We want to be accepted?

Esteem acceptance and praise is one of our deepest cravings. I've done seminars all over the country and as you speak to people, 50-60 people come up and say “thank you, that was great, I appreciate it.” But there is always that one person that has something negative to say, so the ratio is 50:1 but what is on my mind? That one person. What about the other 50? For example a dance instructor was teaching a lady who always wanted to dance and had saved up her money and on her first lesson, the dance instructor said, "Man, you dance like a hippo." What happens to that lady? Does she ever try it again? She is gone.

When in reality, if you look at some of the famous musicians, they've had instructors say that to them, but they didn't listen to them, but the majority of people do listen to them, they have this fear of criticism, they want to be accepted. Fear is one of those things that we really need to take a look at. If you take a plank and put it on the ground and walk across it, there is no fear, but all the sudden, if you put it up on a 20 story building, and you have to walk across this plank between two buildings, it is the same thing, you know you can do it, but you still feel the fear. For example, public speaking, is that a big fear among people? Why? It is a learned fear, where did we learn it? At school? Somebody laughed and what did we think? They are laughing at us.

I teach students and one of the courses I teach at the University is Public Speaking and one of the first things we have to deal with is the fear in getting out and doing it. In fact, one of the funny things that Jerry Seinfeld says is that one of the biggest fears is public speaking and public speaking is a greater fear than dying. And so he says people at the funeral would rather be in the casket than giving the Eulogy. It doesn't make a lot of sense. We have to look at one of the triggers of your fears. Where do they come from? Whether it's spiders or snakes or monsters under the bed. That is the thing. I'm not talking major psychosis or major fear, I'm just talking about minor fears that we have to get over and one of the biggest things they talk about of course is looking fear in the face. Getting out there and doing it. Have you ever had an experience where you were so scared to do something and then you went and did it and what was the first thing you thought of? That's right, that it wasn't so bad. We spend all this time worrying about it and the most important thing is to identify that trigger and understand where that fear comes from and get past them.

Like again, the fear of criticism, when you look at the fear of criticism, Napoleon Hill says it robs man of initiative, destroys his power of imagination, limits his individuality takes away his self reliance and does damage in 100 other ways. He talks about that it causes lack of initiative and lack of ambition. It is a great enemy, you need to identify that you have and get over it. Does anyone have a fear of getting on the phone? How about fear of rejection? They did studies with children who were deathly afraid of dogs. What they would do is they would actually have the kids watch other children play with dogs. That was enough to cure the fear 99% of the time to see other people doing it will get yourself out there and doing it. Understand that fear is magnified doubt. You create this in your mind. The critical thing is to get out there and do it.

Don't accept random thoughts in your mind. Program your subconscious mind, work on your mental skills and program your mind for success. It works! Success is an open book test. That is the critical thing you need to understand. Sure these are soft skills. Sure things are things you don't learn in school, but these skills I guarantee you will increase your ability to achieve exponential success faster than anything else. Go out there and do it. Achieve your dreams, find your goals and become exponentially successful.

Conclusion
Persuasion is the missing puzzle piece that will crack the code to dramatically increase your income, improve your relationships, and help you get what you want, when you want, and win friends for life. Ask yourself how much money and income you have lost because of your inability to persuade and influence. Think about it. Sure you’ve seen some success, but think of the times you couldn’t get it done. Has there ever been a time when you did not get your point across? Were you unable to convince someone to do something? Have you reached your full potential? Are you able to motivate yourself and others to achieve more and accomplish their goals? What about your relationships? Imagine being able to overcome objections before they happen, know what your prospect is thinking and feeling, feel more confident in your ability to persuade. Professional success, personal happiness, leadership potential, and income depend on the ability to persuade, influence, and motivate others.

Kurt Mortensen’s trademark is Magnetic Persuasion; rather than convincing others, he teaches that you should attract them, just like a magnet attracts metal filings. He teaches that sales have changed and the consumer has become exponentially more skeptical and cynical within the last five years. Most persuaders are using only 2 or 3 persuasion techniques when there are actually 120 available!

Health Insurance Options for Senior Citizens

By Cherie Gordon-Eales

Health insurance used to be considered a replacement of income for your spouse and children if you were to die during your working years. People of retirement age and older do not usually have young children to provide for because their children are usually grown up and have their own jobs and families. Therefore the benefits of insurance are directed to the needs of the elderly as they live out the rest of their lives. The life insurance sum will generally pay for the funeral arrangements and provide a lump sum to whoever is left behind. Some also help to pay the fees should one go into a nursing home facility as well. Because of the baby boomers living to a more advanced age the need for this type of health insurance is starting to increase.

Get Instant Life Insurance Quotes!

Whilst the need for health insurance may decrease with age for some, there are many who would benefit from health insurance for the elderly. People are living longer these days and often, elderly individuals are called on to raise their grandchildren, long after they have finished raising their own offspring. If you are responsible for raising your grandchildren as a senior citizen, who will provide for them when you're gone?

Social security and pension benefits, if they are eligible to receive them, can fill in the gaps for your spouse and dependents after your death, but will that be enough? Look closely at your individual situation to determine whether or not you need to purchase senior health insurance and, if so, your chances to obtain it at a reasonable rate should you need to. What works for one may not work for you, so you must assess your personal situation before proceeding. Today Health Insurance has changed and many policies that were once thought of as age related are now being revised. Of course changing a policy you have had for many years will always be the best bet, since it was bought at ultimate age, health, and cost. But for those people who never thought they would need it, there are still some great policies available at a reasonable cost with great benefits.

When you become elderly buying health insurance can be difficult. As you get older, the companies that supply insurance cover don’t make any money off you unless they make the policies too high priced to achieve. Securing senior life insurance at a good premium rate can be even more difficult than the ads lead you to believe.

Unfortunately the real fact of the matter is that anything that increases your risk of death also makes you more of a risk to the insurance companies, thus reducing your chances of getting a good deal at a premium rate. Fortunately many insurance companies that specialise in providing senior people's insurance plans can offer you not only a wealth of good insurance information but they can also offer you a good insurance plan at a decent insurance rate.

You can increase your chances of securing a decent health insurance plan for the elderly if you are prepared to compromise exactly what you want to insure against. One way to achieve this is to get coverage for only long-term care and death expenses (such as cost of funeral, coffin and plot) Another way is by looking at your past and current lifestyle. If you keep yourself reasonably fit, haven't had any major illnesses and have no bad habits such as smoking and excess drinking you should be able to purchase a good health insurance plan at a decent price.

Although in the past the need for health insurance had been thought to decrease as a person got older this is certainly not the case now. Many insurance companies are seeing a gap in the market helping those of advancing age decide upon an insurance policy that will cover them both in long-term care and also funeral arrangements as the time draws near.

In the past many insurance companies were reluctant to issue health insurance to senior citizens. Not only that but many employer-sponsored heath insurance plans contained provisions to reduce the benefits for employees once they had reached a a certain age, usually 65. Today, although not as bad as in the past, you will often find that this is still the case.

No matter who or what insurance policy you decide to go with, make sure it best suits your needs. Do your research and compare quotes and policies to see who offers the most for the money. Every senior citizen has different needs and it is essential to have all the facts and information laid out logically so that you can get the best policy for the best price. For example, an elderly couple with an adult handicapped child will need more health insurance than a single elderly person who is alone and has only need for long-term and death benefits. There is also a broad spectrum in between which needs to be catered for. It is therefore, essential that you make sure you know what your needs are before signing anything.

Harvard Professors and TV Producers – Do They Really Know Much About the Second Coming of Christ

By Michael Bresciani

In a world bent on acquiring ever more knowledge being referred to as being intelligent has supplanted the idea of a moral and decent life. I attended a funeral where the deceased was known for having been a cranky, ungodly, unloving man throughout his entire life. I thank God I wasn’t asked to give the eulogy. The person that had to deliver the eulogy was hard put to find a decent word to say about the deceased. I will never forget the single word he was able to find in praise for decedent. He said “he was as we all know, a very intelligent man.”

Link to The Eternal Portal

While being intelligent has never been a requirement for entering the kingdom of God it is also not required for interpreting the scriptures or the exposition of biblical prophecies. That does not mean that it is left to the ignorant to tell what is in the scripture. It is the believing and faithful alone that are allowed to see what the word of God is saying. Jesus said the Pharisees heard what he was saying but because they chose not to believe it, its truth was concealed from them regardless of their intelligence. Both the Pharisees and today’s scholars and scoffers are still making true the adage that “The worldly say let me see and then I’ll believe while the Godly say I believe and thus they see”

That revelation and understanding is kept from certain people has nothing to do with their intelligence or the lack of it. In fact it is God himself who promises to keep them in the dark because of their unbelief.

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matthew 13:11

And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Luke 8:10

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. Luke 10:21

The Apostle Paul scoffed at the scoffers especially those who fancied themselves men of letters and of science. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:20,21

The learned have never understood the principle of revelation. It is not what we learn that shows what God is saying but it is what God reveals to us about what he has said that matters. This principle is seen in Christ’s answer to Peter when Peter told him that he knew Jesus was the Son of the Living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 16:17

When the history channel aired its review of the Christian view of the apocalypse they called on several prominent university professors to comment on the renewed interest in the doctrines of the second coming of Christ. Many allusions were also drawn from movies like “Left Behind and the Omen. After presenting what is commonly believed in the church today about the second coming, the remainder of the program was used to de-bunk or cast doubt on those views. Calling on the views and comments of unbelieving doctors of divinity and TV and Hollywood puppets, they managed to raise more questions than they answered. Although not a laughing matter it seemed as if they were getting their best answers from Dr. Twiddle D.D. and Rufus T. Firefly. I think it’s safe to say that the apostles, prophets and certified bible preachers in any generation are far more believable than those the history channel chose to speak for them.

Before Christ was born in Bethlehem King Herod wanted to know where he was to be born. He asked his scribes and priests who after checking the writings of the prophets they informed Herod that he would be born in Bethlehem of Ephrata. Two amazing things can be learned from this little bit of scripture. First, what could be known about Christ’s first coming was readily available through prophecies contained in scripture. The second was that this knowledge was used to perform one of the bloodiest child massacres in the history of the world.

Nothing much has changed over the years. All that can be known about Christ’s second coming can still be found in the scriptures. And for those who are unbelieving and evil that knowledge will be scoffed at or misused to conduct themselves and others to their own inevitable judgment.

Previous Insurance Injuries

By Michael Bens

If you have previous injuries prior to taking out life insurance, be ware that you will pay higher premiums if you are accepted for a policy. Thus, most people that pose a risk are labeled under the “Rated Acceptance Terms,” which means that you are a higher than average risk and you will pay higher premiums for coverage.

Get Instant Life Insurance Quotes!

Sounds unfair and to a degree it is if you were victimized in an incident. Still, you will receive the Rated premiums if you have previous injuries. Most insurance companies may require that you take a medical examination, even if they have reviewed your medical records. Therefore, it pays to be honest to avoid losing your chance of getting coverage. After all, the coverage now will add up later when your family needs it the most. As a candidate under the Rated premiums, I my self would prefer to pay higher premiums now and avoid stress to my family later. I experienced the most frustrating experience of life when my mother passed on, and my father had no life insurance coverage. We struggled to pay for her funeral expenses, and believe me it left bitterness inside, since my father did not consider the inevitable.

Few companies’ may not apply medical exams; however, many will especially if you pose risks. Most companies’ will request the medical records from your physician under your consent and are often happy with the results, however, if the records have history then the medical exam is required, and often this slows the process of getting your coverage.

If you have a mortgage, or currently closing a mortgage deal you are expected to take out life insurance in most instances. Life insurance is often required since it is an additional source of security to the lender that money is available in the event you should die. The life insurance policies will often payout a lump sum of cash to the family members if you die, and this is often applied to payoff the mortgage. However, most companies will charge higher fees when you include mortgage in your life insurance policy.

Some companies consider mortgages in different light. For example, if you have “Interest Only Mortgage” loans then you will need “Level Coverage Life” policies, since you will need a ‘fixed and constant’ cash assurance. The reason for this is that the Interest Only loans allow the buyer to payoff the interest first and then the capital later. The Level Coverage Insurance pays off the capital on the mortgage, thus since the buyer is only paying interest now the capital later will be much higher. Therefore, the company will charge higher premiums likely, since the money applied to your life insurance is the sum you will receive if you should die. Therefore, the company (when mortgage is involved) is paying for burial plus mortgage. If you have a mortgage and a spouse joining you in the purchase of the home, then you want to consider a Joint Plan, since this will lower your premiums slightly.

Of course, if you or your spouse is under the Rated Premium plans then the premiums will go up. One of the disadvantages of Joint life coverage is that the term is obsolete once the first party dies. Thus, the plan is often called “First Life” since it will cover one or the other in the event a policyholder dies. Therefore, if the spouse does not have a single policy when the first policyholder dies, he/she will not have coverage and it could lead to bigger problems since the person may not be able to get coverage later.

Still, if the second party were able to get coverage, the person would pay higher premiums most likely. Finally, if you have mortgage to consider you may want to consider taking out Critical Ill or Terminal Ill coverage, since this will provide additional coverage when the inevitable occurs. Furthermore, it might be in your best interest to take out separate policies, rather than joint policies, since you may pay more now, but you and your spouse will not suffer later.

Readings for Funerals

By Eddie Tobey

Funeral services often include prayers, readings from the Bible or other sacred texts, the signing of hymns or words of comfort by the clergy. Sometimes, a relative or a close friend is also asked to give a eulogy detailing the happy memories and achievements of the deceased. Readings and speeches at the funeral service provide comfort and courage for family and friends mourning the death of a loved one.

Link to Christian Memorials

Readings are often customary, and are part of the funeral ceremony to provide deeper consolation and strength to the immediate kin of the deceased. At the Mass for a Catholic burial one can read from the Sacred Scriptures of the Old Testament, the New Testament or for the various Gospels. Some of the famous readings are, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” from the Book of Job 19:1, 23-27; “He Accepted Them As A Holocaust” from the Book of Wisdom 3:1-9 or 3:1-6. 9; “It Is Good And Holy To Think Of The Dead Rising Again” from the second book of Maccabees 12:43-46, “Rejoice And Be Glad, For Your Reward Will Be Great In Heaven” from the Gospel of St. Matthew 5:1-12; or “Young Man, I Say To You, Arise” from the Gospel of St. Luke 7:11-17.

A friend can also recite a poem during a eulogy to express his deepest thoughts and feelings, and the right poem, whether ancient or modern, will provide some comfort to the deceased family. However, the poems should be appropriate for the occasion and short enough to be read at a funeral or memorial service.

Reading scriptures during funeral services proclaims the meaning that Christ himself gave to death, teach us to remember the dead and nourish our hope of being together again in God’s kingdom. Readings give a deceased family hope to be re-united with their loved ones, and are an important part of a funeral rite.

Readings or poems recited during funerals truly express the sad bereavement sentiments and comfort the immediate family members of the departed soul.

Can Natural Remedy Help To Lower Or Prevent High Blood Pressure?

By Cindy Heller

Today, most of the people do not know they have high blood pressure, because it has no overt manifestations, such as pain, dizziness or headaches. Then how most of the high blood pressure or hypertension is discovered? Every time when you are sick and go to see your doctor, the doctor or nurse will take your vital signs, including your pulse, blood pressure and heart rate. From here, usually the doctor will let you know your body condition.

Home Remedies For Better Health

If you are detected you have high blood pressure or hypertension, it is essential for you to treat it immediately as high blood pressure is a very serious condition that can have fatal consequences if you are not treated it correctly and effectively. It can cause heart failure and fatal strokes. So high blood pressure is not a medical condition to take lightly, you should select a treatment whether to use traditional medicine or a natural remedy for high blood pressure.

Usually, traditional medicine used by physicians to treat high blood pressure is anti-hypertensive medications like Inderal, Tiazac, and many others. The great majority of these anti-hypertensive prescription medications have few, if any, unpleasant side effects. They work well by preventing a person blood pressure from rising past a certain point.

However, some anti-hypertensive prescription medications do have side effects like depression, and one type of medication just might work for you but not others. You may have to try numerous medications and dosages until it suit you.

What Are The Natural Remedy Use for High Blood Pressure?

For this alternative medicine, biofeedback is frequently used as a natural remedy for high blood pressure or hypertension. It is advent in the 1960. You may be unaware of what is going on inside your body, but thru the use of this biofeedback monitoring instruments; it provides you with physiological information about how your body is functioning. The biofeedback allows you to actually control your autonomic nervous system that controls blood pressure, heart rate and gastrointestinal activity.

How is this biofeedback work? Usually the psychologist will attaches electrodes to points on your chest and skull. Funerals - How To Save Money When Planning One

By Michael Russell

There is substantial money that can be saved by shopping wisely for all the expenses associated with a funeral. I have outlined some tips for saving funeral money below.

Talk to family members about your funeral. When you die, grieving survivors may be vulnerable to the subtle ploys of the funeral director to spend a lot of money. If your wishes are in your will, it may not be read until after other arrangements have been made. Make sure that your family knows what your wishes are.

Funeral Planning

Price shopping in person, by phone, or via the internet can save you thousands of dollars. To try to accurately calculate the time spent for each funeral option, add an hour or two for behind the scenes work. Be sure to ask if there will be any other charges. If you calculate paying more than $100 per hour, your mortuary is very high priced. On the other hand, if the cost seems reasonable, be sure to check the cost for caskets. In the past, mortuaries had a high markup for their caskets.

Choose a simple, wood casket. It is currently illegal for mortuaries to charge a handling fee for bringing in an outside casket. Some cost-conscious individuals choose a minimum priced casket from the mortuary and drape it in material that the deceased loved one would like.

Many people are choosing cremation over a traditional burial. It costs much less to have the cremated remains sent from one state to another. The space that the cemetery charges will probably cost less than the space needed for a body burial. Or, you can opt to have the cremated remains buried or scattered in a special place of your choosing. If you choose to have a memorial service sans the body, there is no need for embalming, a fancy (and expensive) casket, or transporting of the body back and forth. You can use a park, church, or community center for the service, without paying for the funeral home staff.

A lesser known option is to donate your body to a medical school. In many cases, there is no cost to the family. An attractive option to this is that the cremated remains are usually returned to the family after scientific study.

If you prefer a traditional, body burial, opt for the grave liner. For all intents and purposes, it is just a box for a box. The outer burial container has become a way for morticians to increase their bottom line. Remember that it just gets covered by the cemetery lawn.

Funeral directors are not necessary. You can handle all arrangements by using a third party. There are numerous resources available that tell you what permits are required, when and where to file them, plus a lot of practical information for families.

Join or communicate with a Funeral Consumers Alliance. Many of these alliances have contracts with mortuaries for discount services. They have the price shopping already completed and can help if you die or move to another state.

A funeral is an extremely sad, hectic and expensive time in the life of a family. Following the tips that I have outlined should help with the burden of traditional and non-traditional, funeral planning.

Wills

By Josh Riverside

A will is a legal document that determines what happens to a person’s property after his or her death. A will states who receives property and assets and in what amount. Property distributed under the terms of the will become the probate estate. Making a will is a responsibility, as well as a right that is protected by law.

A will should be made when a person is legally competent, having a sound mind and at least 18 years old. It should be prepared while its maker is in good health and free from emotional stress. In other words, to make a valid will, people must understand things such as what property they own, its value, and whom they are leaving it after their death.

A person does not need to have a large estate to plan and prepare a will. Anyone who owns property, including cash, stocks, jewelry or furniture, or real property, such as land or house, could prepare a will. If married, each spouse should have a will indicating the ownership and transfer of property.

In addition to distributing or transferring of property, a will should have other functions. It may be used to name a guardian for any minor children or to create a trust and designate a trustee to handle an estate (property left after death) on behalf of children or others. A will may also be used to name a personal representative or an executor to handle a decedent's property and affairs from the time of death until an estate is settled.

When there is no valid will, the person is said to have died intestate. A court appoints an administrator to handle the decedent's affairs, and his or her property is then distributed according to a formula fixed by law. After payment of taxes, debts, funeral expenses and administrative costs, the property goes to the surviving spouse, children or relatives. The laws are specific as to how property is to be distributed, including which relatives have priority and how the property is divided.

Funerals

By Eddie Tobey

A funeral is a procession or ceremony held in connection with the burial or cremation of a dead person. A funeral is an assortment of customs according to one’s religious affiliations and culture.
In the US and Canada, most funeral rituals are divided into three parts: visitation, funeral and burial. At the visitation ceremony, the embalmed body of the deceased is placed in a casket for friends and family to view the body. Usually, visitation takes place one or two evenings before the funeral, and most attendees sign a book kept by the deceased’s survivors to record the feelings of the friends and family members. Sometimes, a family might also display photographs taken of the deceased during his lifetime, or some prized possession at the visitation. The ceremony usually ends with a prayer service, and in a Catholic funeral the ceremony might include a rosary.

Link to Catholic Memorials

The visitation ceremony follows a memorial service or funeral service, and generally take place at either a funeral home or church. The funeral service is often officiated by a clergyman and includes prayers, reading from the Bible, the singing of hymns and words of comfort by the clergy. Sometimes a relative or close friend also gives a eulogy detailing happy memories and achievements. Finally, the coffin is closed after the attendees view the deceased's body for the last time. The funeral service is concluded with a burial service, conducted at the side of the grave, tomb or crematorium, where the body is being buried or cremated at the conclusion. Sometimes, pallbearers or close relatives and friends of the deceased carry the casket from the chapel to the hearse and from the hearse to the site of the burial service. In some traditions, a meal or other gathering at the deceased’s church or another off-site location follows the burial service.

Funerals are somber occasions, and etiquette demands that one should attend a funeral of a friend or acquaintance to pay his last homage to the deceased.

Don't Wait Until a Death to "Balance the Checkbook"

By Andy Andersohn

Recently a friend died suddenly and his wife had never taken much interest in their family's financial situation. She figured that she had plenty of time to talk it over with her husband. They had briefly talked about going over their financial affairs but they never got around to it. After his death she had no clue how much insurance he had or where the IRA's and 401k's were located. The check book was even a mystery as she used a credit card for any purchases she had to make and her husband wrote out the checks and paid the bills. Several reoccurring bills were paid directly from the checking account and she didn't know the passwords to get into their on-line banking accounts.

Bank of Internet

After some study it was apparent she was not an isolated case. All too often women-and some men-leave the family finances to the other spouse. When the unexpected happens, death, disability or divorce the uninvolved spouse can be left with no clue as to the family's finances.

The problem, in most cases, would have been manageable if the spouses had discussed their finances. How to approach this can be difficult as the spouse managing the money may feel they are being criticized in their handling of the finances. The other spouse has to take some responsibility in this matter by asking questions and showing some interest. At the least women may have to know how to handle finances as many outlive their husbands, they never marry or they get divorced.

One suggestion is that the spouse who manages the money make up a folder for the other listing all the accounts, insurance policies, location of wills, and safety deposit boxes. It should be kept in a safe place and updated periodically. A listing of passwords for online accounts is also a good idea, although it should be kept separate from the listing of account numbers.

Another thought is for the managing spouse to allow the other to take a turn paying the bills and balancing the check book from time to time. Further, the family should update the family's assets, debts and other obligations at least once a year. If there are financial advisors involved both should meet with them periodically.

Now that she was alone it's still not too late to become knowledgeable in "balancing the checkbook." However, it could be a mistake trying to do everything at once. The first step is finding out what bills need to be paid and what income is available to pay them. She needs to find out what benefits continue or change after the spouse's death.

Longer term, taking one step at a time, she can study various gaps in her financial knowledge so at least she can ask the right questions and develop and weight her financial options. This way she'll become more comfortable in dealing with financial issues and is more likely to make good decisions.
